Counseling is a professional relationship that empowers you to accomplish your mental health, wellness, education and career goals. Sometimes you have to go back to go forward. Counseling takes a close look at your thinking and your behaviors while identifying strategies to reach your objectives.
As a nationally certified counselor since 2003, I have had the pleasure to work with several hundred clients to do the healing work that is often required when you are “stuck”, feel alone or need direction. My goal is to create a space based on mutual trust where you can explore the “why”, “what” and “how” to move from one place in your life to another with the intention of getting more joy, hope and peace.
Based on a person’s needs, I counsel mostly through a cognitive behavioral approach. Basically, this means that I help you identify your pattern of thinking and behaving. I empower you to “hang on” to what is working and change what isn’t. You can learn more about different types of therapy here.
Relationally, it is important to build skills for healthy communication and most of us have not been taught or lack the model to be productive in our relationships. I help people discern what is “hard wired” based on your personality and identify areas for change that can lead to more balance in your life.
As a Christian, I am especially proud of the work that I have done professionally to help people find Christ at the center of their lives. This approach may include prayer and scripture. I respectfully inquire about your faith perspective and include it in our counseling, only if you so desire.
I am not certified as an addiction or eating disorder specialist, but other than that, I treat most disorders. Some of the areas that I work with include anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief and parenting challenges.
If you are interested in learning more about my approach, I am happy to chat with you by phone to see if we are a good fit based on your need and my expertise. I love what I do and I am happy to help folks move toward life long changes.
