Counselor Bio

Kim Clark, MA, LPC, NCC, Certified Life Coach

Your decision to seek counseling is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. I hope that by sharing a bit of my professional and personal journey with you, it might make your process of deciding to engage in counseling easier. By partnering together, my goal, as a counselor and coach at Joy Counseling, is to help inspire you to find more purpose, hope, balance, joy and peace in your life.

Since graduating from Oakland University in Michigan with a Master’s Degree in Counseling, I have worked for more than twenty years privately in Michigan, Ontario, Canada and Virginia. As a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), I enjoy helping people find a fresh perspective on where they are, where they want to go, and how to get there.

I am also a certified distance counselor which means that I am able to offer counseling through a secure web portal. That means we can meet over the phone in the convenience of your home or office. Telehealth is a new way of approaching the counseling relationship. I am finding that it offers great convenience and an opportunity for emotionally healthy folks to work through lifes challenges.

I work primarily with adults and couples, but I also love the work I do with older children (9+) and teens. I have been trained in Play and Sand Tray Therapy, and have found amazing results with children who have an avenue to express themselves in ways that come naturally to them. I cherish the fact that our youth can often see life more simply and adapt to change easily.

As an adult counselor, I have the pleasure of helping individuals, couples and families to better understand one another, working with each person to develop skills that foster healthier relationships. My approach is to enable you to identify what you think, what you do and what you need to change in order to grow more successfully.

I have opened four Christian counseling practices in the U.S. and Canada and I have learned that life isn’t just about finding ourselves – but more importantly, who God created us to be. I understand that choosing to follow Christ is a personal choice and I respect that boundary with all of my clients. One of the most gratifying parts of my job is to offer Theophostic/Renewal prayer to those interested, as well as Prepare and Enrich for couples preparing for marriage.

On a personal note, I love being married to my husband and I am most proud of being a mom to two wonderful boys. I love animals, especially our two dogs and two cats. Some of my favorite pastimes are decorating, cooking, traveling and writing. I wrote a book called “Letting Go”. It is a devotional to help discern what it means to find Christ at the center of marriage, parenting and it is a working book to inspire self-care.
